Fear is a tricky thing- while it holds us back and wreaks havoc on our mental state, it still offers a sense of (false) security. And that false security feels good, till it doesn't...
When we look inward to find our authentic selves we also have to acknowledge our fears, our anxieties and other unpleasant things. Because without understanding them and working on them we can't have an authentic brand or style.
When I launched 344pm 6 years ago I had a wonderful client who was willing to give this newbie a shot. We went through the process and the day came where I would present my recommendations to her. About 5 min into the virtual session she stared crying. The first thought in my head was- I blew it, I'm never going to be able to get this business off the ground, I've disappointed my client. Before I could say anything she apologized and said she'd never worn such vibrant colors. That the top we were discussing was beautiful and the color overtook her, in a good way. She said she "could finally shine". We both sighed and I reassured her she would shine. And at that moment both my client and I took a courageous step and overcame our fears.
Being authentic is being courageous and putting yourself out there. It's taking a chance and launching a business, wearing new colors that work for you, accepting and dressing FOR your body shape or anything you do that allows you to be confident, shine and be you. I was glad I could give my client the support she needed to shine. I'm glad she was courageous and wore the bright colored top. I'm so grateful she taught me this so I can be the supportive force my clients need to find their personal style.
